Grosvenor Anschell passed away in Bellevue, Washington on September 4, 2021 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Helen Anschell, his brothers Cleveland and Girard, and his sister Sydney. He is survived by his long-time partner, Myrna Secord, his sister Idore Anschell, his daughter Deborah (Howard Shiffman), his son, Jonathan (Abigail Goldman), his two grandchildren Jonah and Sarah, and his many loving nephews and nieces. He is also survived by Myrna’s daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Ellenhorn, and their children Tamara and Robbie.
Grove was born in Chicago, and after a brief period in Japan was raised in Seattle. He was a life-long learner, and was a graduate of the University of Washington and its law school, and also earned a Master of Laws degree at New York University.
In 1958, Grove married Bernice Libin from Calgary, Canada and the two started their family in Calgary. He began his law practice in Calgary where his children were born. He later practiced law in New York and Iran, where he developed an expertise and passion for immigration law. Grove was fortunate to develop a vast array of friendships worldwide.
When Grove returned from Iran in 1979, he continued his immigration practice in Seattle. It was at this time that he rekindled his relationship with Myrna, that led to a loving partnership lasting more than forty years.
Grove was forever intellectually curious; he was a voracious reader of news and attended numerous lectures well into his eighties. There was nothing that he enjoyed as much as a morning spent with the Sunday newspaper.
Grove was a passionate Democrat, with a keen interest in social justice and progressive liberal causes.
