
Horace Charles Hopper was born on September 15, 1915 in Marten, Arkansas. He was born to the union of Charlie Hopper and Carrie Moore, the fourth of six children. Horace was educated in the Arkansas Public Schools before enlisting in the Civil Service during World War II. After the war, he met and married Marie G. Jones in 1946. Horace and Marie moved to Seattle, Washington in 1950. To this union there were born 13 children.
Horace was employed with Olympic Foundry Metal Fabrication prior to a career with Sellens Construction Company, where he worked as a labor foreman from 1966 until his retirement in 1980. Horace was an active member of the community and served on the Mount Zion Deacon Board, the Senior Usher Board and was a member of Harmony Lodge #2 F&AM, and Prince Hall Consistory #67.
Horace?s legacy has been one of hard work and building his family. He was blessed with a great sense of humor and a deep sense of religion that he passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He sang and played the piano and his grandchildren often mistook him for singer Ray Charles.
Horace was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Deaconess Marie G. Hopper. He is survived by his children: Grace Lee Hopper, Alice Doreen Hopper, Charles Spencer Hopper, JoAnn Hopper, Queen Ella Hopper, Horace John Hopper, Bonnie Marie Hopper, Kenneth Hopper, Mary Jane Hopper, Perry James Hopper, Susan Mae Hopper, Craig Stephen Hopper, and Christopher Gene Hopper;
Grandchildren: Nichole Lynn Williams, Alejandro Rey Gold, Paul Michael Taylor, Erica Marie Hopper, Leighann Joseph, Charles Christopher Buddy Hopper, Tayler Elisha Brown and Ashley Rae Hopper;
Great-grandchildren: Sydney Michelle Williams, Justine Marie Gold, Lamonte Taylor and Cheyenne Joseph.
He also leaves behind a sister Mildred D. Spriggs, two daughters-in-law Selma Elizabeth Hopper and Gigi Reed-Hopper, many nieces, nephews and devoted friends; among them, Mr. Edward Bland of Seattle.
