
Born on Feb. 4, 1915, Howard Hardy died at the Kirkland Hospice on August 9, 2002. He grew up and attended public schools in the Seattle that he loved. He graduated from Lincoln High and received his BA and MA from WWU. He taught 5/6th grades in several Seattle schools until he retired in 1972.
He served in the Nat'l Guard and Army before entering the Navy as a seaman in Jan. 1942. After finishing midshipmen's school at Columbia U., he served as an officer in WWII and Korea, retiring as a Naval Reserve Commander in 1975.
A member of George Washington Masonic Lodge and a Shriner, he often golfed at the Nile Golf Club. Enjoying golf from the age of ten, he was on his high school and university teams and played on many courses throughout the state, the country and the world.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 48 years, Bea, his son Keith, of Guatemala;
three daughters: Laura Steinhofer of Tucson, AZ, Virginia Conley and Gloria Hardy of the Seattle area; two sons-in-law, George Steinhofer and James Conley, and seven grandchildren: Sean and Nathan Greene, Tony Ali, Nathan, Colleen, Brandon and Cole Conley.
Memorial Services will be held at Maple Leaf Evangelical Church, 1059 NE 96th St., at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17th. Remembrances may be made to Maple Leaf Church, the American Cancer Society or the NW Kidney Center.
