

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Marie Handy was born on August 1, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Johnny B. and Dora Hazel Handy. Jackie was the third of five children. Jackie was a toddler when the family moved to Denver, Colorado.
Jackie accepted the Lord at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church, Denver, Colorado. Although it was an expectation of the Handy children to be active in the church, Jackie was diligent in her church involvement. She actively participated in Sunday School, Baptist Training Union (BTU), Usher Board, Youth Fellowship and the Missionary Society.
Jackie was educated in the Denver Public Schools and graduated from Manual High School. Following graduation, Jackie attended Hastings College in Hastings Nebraska where she received a Bachelor's degree in Education. Upon graduation, Jackie returned to Denver to a teaching position at Steck Elementary School. Jackie continued to teach at Steck for 5 years.
Jackie met the love of her life, Miles E. Wilson in Denver in 1964 Soon after Jackie and Miles married in June 1974, they relocated to Seattle, Washington. Jackie's work ethic and commitment to education followed her to Washington state. She was offered a teaching position in the Everett School District. After Jackie and Miles were settled in Seattle, they became the proud parents of two daughters; Myla Marie and Michelle Nicole.
Shortly after relocating to Seattle, Jackie joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Jackie attended Sunday School became active in a Missionary Circle and later served on the Scholarship Committee for several years. Jackie also participated in the Breakfast Ministry. Jackie enjoyed her role as cashier for the Breakfast Ministry and she took her responsibility very serious. Jackie was a dependable member of the ministry until her health started to fail.
Jackie was an avid reader. In her pursuit of a graduate degree, she attended the University of Washington. Jackie was awarded a Master's degree in Library Science. Jackie continued to teach elementary education to fifth graders before being offered a position as a librarian at Einstein Middle School in the Everett School District. Jackie remained in the Librarian position until her retirement in 2005.
Jackie's commitment to education extended beyond the classroom and library. She was a served as a coordinator for a Japanese student exchange program for 20 years. Jackie welcomed students into her home and she helped them to adjust to the American culture.
In addition to Jackie's commitment to the church and education, she was a devoted wife and mother. Jackie enjoyed the many family vacations taken along the west coast, several trips to the southern part of the US and she absolutely loved cruises, specifically Caribbean cruises. The family enjoyed a cruise together on the largest ship sailing in 2010, the Oasis of the Seas.
Jackie's belief in God sustained her throughout her illness. One of the old gospel songs that she would hum was "He's All I Need".

God called Jackie home on Saturday, May 25, 2013. Jackie leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Miles Wilson, her daughters, Myla Wilson, Atlanta, GA, Michelle Wilson, Seattle, WA, one brother, James Handy, Denver, CO, three sisters, Vivian Handy, Houston, TX, Deborah Sherrer, Denver, CO, Doretha Johnette Jones, Denver, CO and three sister-in-laws, Deborah Splinter (Ray), Portland, OR, Lana Shields, Seattle, WA, Cheryl Melgar (Anselmo), Seattle, WA, a host of other relatives and friends.
Jackie will surely be missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace!
