I hope all the fond memories of your Father warm your hearts during this difficult time of loss. I don't know if Kerry, Shaun or I ever met him but I am sure he was a wonderful man.  I can't tell you how much fun all those adventures were that your family included us in as young girls. Going to the parades, the lake with your auntie & uncle, piling in the car with your mom, looking for agates at Agate Beach etc. I always wondered what happened to you all. I send you and your family my deepest sympathy. I have fond memories of Mr. James Grobe that have come to me often over the years. Whenever I am reminded of my childhood nickname I think of him. He was the only person who continued to call me by that name as an adult - it was endearing. He was a warm wonderful person who touched my life in a special way, for which I am greatful. With each memory, let our hearts be reminded that nothing can ever take away the beauty we have known, for love remains a part of us forever.

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of his friend.  He referred to the status on his tombstone, from the beginning to the end.

He noticed that first came the date of his birth and spoke of the second with tears.  But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time that he spend alive on earth and now only those who love him know what the little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash.  What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard, Are there things you'd like to change?  For you never know how much time is left You could be at dash mid-range.

If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and what's real, And always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to answer, And show appreciation more, And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect, And more often wear a smile, Remembering that his special dash might only last a while.

So when your eulogy is being read with your life's actions to rehash, Would you be pleased with the things they have to say about how you spend your dash?

Just wanted to thank you for placing the obituary in the paper - I met Jim in 1964 while working at OVERALL, then at the Seattle Times.  Many was the time we joked about him being under my desk.  I was just 19 when he introduced me to the "love of my life" Bob Johnston, another telephone man.  Many fond memories arise.  My sympathy is with his family - know that Jim was special...
