September 13, 1935 - February 1, 2014
Jerome Arthur Despinasse Butler, 78, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2014, after
a long illness. Born September 13, 1935 to Roland I. Butler and Hermenia L. Sanders in
Seattle, Washington.
Jerome was a graduate of Garfield High School, participated in track and field, and as a
yell leader on the cheer leading squad for athletic events.
After serving in the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, Jerome married
Patricia and lived in Seattle, Washington, where they raised twins, Victor A. and Victoria
A. Butler.
He worked and retired from the United States Postal Service. He was an avid reader,
appreciated all genres of music, and was known as an advocate for education. If you
called the Seattle Black College Fair Hotline, his voice would greet you.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jerome is survived by his loving
wife, Patricia L. Butler, of over fifty years, children, and his sister, Linda G. Sanders.
