He was loving and generous, courageous in adversity; and delighted in humor and his Irish heritage. In living with heart disease over the past 15 years, Jack received a heart transplant on Easter Sunday in 1996. Believing strongly he was given more life to give back, Jack dedicated his energy to family and friends; to his church in volunteering for the Sack Lunch Program and the Knights of Columbus Charities, to participation in the University of Washington Heart Transplant Support Group. He volunteered with the Group Health Community Resource Line for many years, making special friends. More recently, he provided rides for patients to their Doctor?s appointments. He enjoyed the many friends in St. Brendan?s families where his children grew up, and he and Gretchen participated in Parish activities. After retiring as a King County Police Sergeant for health reasons in the 1980?s, he returned to school and became an elementary school teacher. He started the computer lab and worked with students in all grades at St. Brendan?s School in Bothell for several years.
