Jac's childhood was spent in Budd Lake, New Jersey, spending winters ice skating and summers sailing on the lake with his brothers, Tom and Hank who preceded him in death.
Jac, with permission from his parents, enlisted in the Navy before his 18th birthday, he later transferred to the United States Marine Corps where he began his lifetime career.

Jac retired in 1968 as a Master Gunnery Sergeant, he then worked for the U.S. Government and was stationed in Panama and Iran. When Jac retired from the government he worked for Pinkertons, Digital (DecWest / Compaq / HP), and most recently the King County Library system.
