

Kay Betts (beloved mother, Yiayia, mother-in-law and aunt) passed away the morning of 2/29/24. Mike and Kristy (son and granddaughter) were with her when she entered into the kingdom of God. She lived a long, very healthy and independent life until the end and was an inspiration to her family and many friends and acquaintances.
Kay was born in Colfax, WA to Greek immigrants and lived with her extended family and 22 cousins on a ranch in Penawawa, WA until she was 10 years old when her parents (Michael and Eleni) and their three daughters (Barbara, Kay, and Katherine) moved to Asotin, WA where they operated a small fruit and vegetable farm.
After graduation from high school, she attended Weiser Business College in Weiser, ID. Kay worked as a Civil Service Secretary at Geiger Field in Spokane and later moved to Frances E. Warren air force base in Cheyenne, WY where she met her future husband, Thomas W. Betts (USAF). They were married in November 1947. Michael Anthony was born November 1948 and David William followed in May 1952. Tom retired from the military in 1962 and the family moved to Seattle. Tom and Kay enjoyed many years together with their friends and family until Tom passed away in 1989. Later in her life she became re-acquainted with their dear friend Paul Eddings, who they met while living in Arizona before retirement. She and Paul became companions for many years.
Kay was full of adventure and traveled the world during her lifetime (especially Greece). She was a member of St. Demetrious Greek Orthodox Church, daughters of Penelope, St. Demetrios Philoptochos Society and was a volunteer at the church Greek Festival for 25 years and several years at Camp Agape for “Kids and Cancer”.
Kay is survived by her son Mike, his wife Sue, granddaughter Kristen and grandson Tom and his wife Heather. Kay’s second son David, passed away in 2011 and is survived by his wife Mary, grandson Michael, granddaughter Megan and her husband Brandon and great-grandsons Tucker and Nolan. She is also survived by her sister Kathy’s daughter Barbara and her husband Earl and their daughters Stephanie, Andrea and Lauren (Craig), as well as Kathy’s other daughter Karen and her daughters Katherine (Scott), Erica (Corey) and Allison. She was predeceased by her sisters Barbara Deligan, Kathy and her husband Gene Auer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church or Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church.
A trisagion for Kay will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 7, 2024 at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox, 2100 Boyer Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112. A graveside service will follow at Evergreen Washelli, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
