
Born March 17, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio. Died July 27, 1997 in Seattle, Washington. Survived by his beloved wife Shirley Miner; sons Shawn Lorraine, Steven and Timothy Miner; stepsons Mark Stockand and Mathew Capriotti; stepdaughter Sherry Capriotti. Kay Attended Ohio State Univ. and graduated from the Univ. of Washington Mechanical Engineering. He earned a Professional Engineer Certification in 1965. He was in the military from 1949-1955 in Strategic Air Command and serviced in Morocco and combat tour in Korea; discharged as a Captain. Kay worked for Crown Zellerback Corporation and then for 24 years he was a design engineer for US Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station in Keyport retiring in 1986. Kay?s passion was aviation! He soloed at age 16 in Lexington, KY. He flew 46 missions in Korea as copilot in 98th Bomb Wing at Yokata Air Base, Japan. Later he was assigned to 44th Bomb Wing in Lake Charles, LA. Kay was a member Evergreen Soaring Club and served as a CFI. Kay mentored many young pilots in the art of flying. He held Commercial Pilot, SMEL, and Glider certificates. His total airtime was 2,260 + hours. As staff engineer for the Museum of Flight he installed aircraft in the new Great Gallery. Kay wrote Pilots Dawn and several articles for AIR & SPACE/SMITHSONIAN, PLANE & PILOT, PACIFIC FLYER, TAKEOFF, SOARING, AOPA PILOT, THE RETIRED OFFICER, MARINE DIGEST, and MUZZELOADER.
