Born June 1, 1913, passed away on May 21, 2001 in Seattle. Predeceased by his first wife, Elsie Sumiko Hosogi Yamada in 1985, and his second wife, May Mieko Fujii Yanagita-Yamada in 1999. Survived by his daughter, Melodye M. Yamada of Seattle and his two younger brothers, Tomokiyo Tom and wife Miye Yamada of Oakland, California, and Toyoaki Bob and wife Masako Yamada of Berkeley, California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by his brothers Kotaro, Ben, Henry, Shizuo, Takashi Ando, and sister, Hanae Matsuda. Born in Seattle and raised in Hiroshima and Seattle, Kenjiro was a long-time resident of Normandy Park and more recently, Cupertino, California. Worked in Seattle, Idaho Anderson Dam, Oregon, Guam, and Kodiak. Managed Lee Hotel for 15 years. Retired from Howard Cooper after 21 years. He will be remembered by his jovial nature, being a voracious reader, and his passion for playing shogi, a Japanese chess game.
