Laverne A Culbertson (Graber), loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on July 28, 2023, at the age of 103. She was born on April 14, 1920, in Seattle and graduated from Ballard High School.
Laverne married Roger Culbertson shortly after his return from duty in the Second World War and they bought their home in Edmonds, WA. With the birth of their son, Jeff Culbertson in 1950 and their daughter Sharon Culbertson in 1951, she spent the next thirty years as a dedicated homemaker. Helping with homework, volunteering with PTA, transporting kids to swim practice, and throwing pinochle parties for friends in the neighborhood.
Upon Roger’s passing in 1978, Laverne returned to the workforce. She went back to school, brushed up her secretarial skills and applied at Boeing. She aced the skills test and was hired as an administrative assistant. The groups that she supported for ten plus years benefited not only from her strong work ethic and eagerness to solve problems, but also from her legendary baking.
Retirement followed, with time spent tending her flowers and yard. Laverne delighted in the antics of her “critters;” the squirrels, birds and rabbits that frequented her yard for a handout of food. Lunch gatherings with lifelong friends from high school were always relished.
As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Laverne took pride in the accomplishments of her grandsons, John (Adrienne) and Michael (Shanjean) and John’s sons, great-grandsons, Tye and Reid. She always looked forward to learning about their latest undertaking. In addition, she loved and cared for many grand-dogs provided by Sharon.
Special thanks go to caregivers Jo and Meaza. Their loving care allowed Mom to remain in her beloved home for 69 years.
Special mention to Tim and Shawn, whose visits were always memorable.
Laverne is survived by her son, Jeff (Debra) Culbertson, daughter, Sharon Culbertson (Robert Taylor), grandsons, John (Adrienne) Schaefer and Michael Schaefer (Shanjean Lee), great grandsons, Tye and Reid Schaefer and numerous nephews and nieces.
Laverne will be greeted in heaven by quite a crowd; her husband Roger, father Ernest, stepmother Bessie, brother Elroy (Charlotte), brother Louie (Francis), and mother-in-law, Ora.
An Inurnment Service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 1:00PM; Washelli Cemetery 11111 Aurora Ave N. Seattle.
Donations can be made to Old Dog Haven or Sarvey Wildlife Care Center.
