Lucy's unique heritage and life experiences exemplify a truly remarkable
woman who was always ahead of her time. Born in Ural, Russia in 1918, Lucy
escaped the Bolshevik Revolution by traveling across Siberia with her mother
Anna Novikoff and older sister Gloria to join her father Constantine in
Harbin China. The family immigrated to the US in 1923 and Lucy proudly kept
Russian family traditions alive by passing them on to her children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
As a gifted student and accomplished pianist, Lucy graduated early from
Seattle's Broadway High, attended Cornish School for the Performing Arts,
and later earned a Masters degree in Bacteriology from the University of
Washington.
After graduate work in virology research and brief employment as a lab
technician at Seattle General Hospital, Lucy enlisted in the US Navy Waves,
attaining the rank of Lieutenant JG, and serving throughout WWII by
establishing and or managing laboratories at military installations
including Camp Hale Colorado, Philadelphia, Quantico, and Astoria Oregon.
After WWII Lucy worked at the VA Hospital in Vancouver and served in the
Naval Reserve before wedding Seattle Surgeon Donald R. Crow in 1948.
After starting her family of two boys and two girls, Lucy began a new
career that would span three decades as a Science and Health teacher in
Seattle schools including Sharples Jr. High and Franklin High. Lucy, Dr.
Crow, and family enjoyed camping at Buck Mt., snow skiing at Crystal, salmon
fishing and cruising on Puget Sound, and water skiing from their dock on
lake Washington.
On Dr. Crow's passing in 1991 Lucy moved to Providence Point Issaquah
and began another segment of life with new friends and activities. Always
young at heart, Lucy continued to learn and grow, taking Spanish lessons,
making ceramics, playing bridge, working out at the pool, and cherishing
time with her grandkids in pretend camping, holiday skits, and science
projects.
Lucy is survived by sister Gloria Burke, sons Don Crow (Gail), Rod Crow,
daughters Leslie Crow (Terry Stipe) and Lori Tyler (George), grandchildren
Connor Tyler, Sascha Stipe, Esther Crow, and Sarah Crow, and great
grandchildren Jewel, Mikah, and Chrisdoss Crow. Lucy is greatly missed by
family and her many friends. A Donation to King County Medic One in lieu of
flowers is suggested. Please leave a note to family on Lucy's tribute and
guest book.
