

Father Lyle Ernest Konen, C.Ss.R., a devoted Redemptorist priest, passed into eternal life at the age of 94. A man of unwavering faith, Father Lyle dedicated 64 years to serving God and His people, embodying the Redemptorist mission to bring the Gospel to the most spiritually abandoned.
Born in Worley, Idaho, Father Lyle graduated from St. Gertrude’s Academy in Cottonwood, Idaho in 1949. He pursued higher education in music at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington and the College of Education in Great Falls, Montana. In 1952, he entered the Redemptorist Seminary in Oakland, California. He made his Profession of Vows on August 2nd, 1956 and he was ordained a priest on June 29th,1961. His ministries spanned serving at the Catholic cemeteries, the Carmelite Monastery, prison ministries, as well as Catholic school Masses, serving the home schooling communities, and parishes throughout western Washington and Oregon, including Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Seattle. Known for his early morning prayers and tireless service, he touched countless lives with his gentle presence and steadfast devotion to God.
His ministries took him to Picture Rocks Retreat House in Tucson, Arizona, Holy Redeemer Parish in Portland, Oregon, as well as parishes in Great Falls, Montana, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, San Francisco, California, Lagos, Nigeria, and throughout the Seattle area.
Father Lyle was preceded in death by parents, William Frank and Catherine A. Konen, his sisters Esther Ross and Sadona Lute and his brothers James Konen and Milton Konen. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, as well as his Redemptorist community.
A rosary will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Catholic Church, 205 Second Ave North, Seattle, Washington 98109 on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 7:00 pm. The funeral Mass will take place at St. James Catholic Cathedral, 804 9th Ave, Seattle, Washington 98104 on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm. Arrangements are under the care of Butterworth Funeral Home.
Father Lyle will be buried at The Redemptorist Cemetery in Liguori, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Redemptorists Denver Province, 1633 North Cleveland Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60614.
Father Lyle’s life was a testament to his love for God and service to others.
His legacy of faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
