Marylou passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on Oct 12, 2018. A native Seattleite, Marylou was raised on Capitol Hill and graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1949. After getting her undergraduate degree in 1953 she spent time teaching in Germany and Japan. In 1965 she completed her Master’s in Education and was immediately hired into the College of Education at Seattle University. After completing her Doctorate at Case Western Reserve University she returned to SU to take a position as a Graduate School faculty member. Marylou was widely respected across the campus and later became the Dean of Graduate Studies, having oversight for all the graduate programs in the university. She was a distinguished professor who was totally committed to her students.
Marylou was preceded in death by her immediate family, including Father James Wyse SJ. She is survived by two generations of nieces and nephews including the families Geraghty, Hanson, Branvold, Flanigan, and Canfield.
A memorial service will be held at Seattle University in the Chapel of St. Ignatius, on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 10:30. There will be a reception following. In memory of Marylou donations may be made to Society of Jesus Oregon Province. Marylou would wish that those who read this would toast her passing with a martini while dancing a quick cha-cha-cha.
