Michael Spyridon Xenos, age 92, reposed Thursday, November 7th, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. He had a peaceful, Christian ending to his life. Mike is preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Costandaras, his father Spiros Xenos and his eldest brother Emanuel Xenos. He is survived by his loving wife Vasiliki ‘Vasa’ Xenos of 63 years, his sons Emilios Xenos and Cosmas Xenos, daughter Marianthi Xenos, grandson Nektaryos Xenos, granddaughters Zoe Xenos and Kemle Mogollon and great granddaughter Milani Vivas, sisters, Kaliopi Tsirakis, Mary Economou, Effie Chriest, Eleftheria Xenos Proios and brother George Xenos.
Born on the island of Leros, Greece, to Elizabeth Costandaras and Spiros Xenos, Mike was the second of seven children.
Mike and his family survived the German and Italian occupations during World War II. When his father and eldest brother left for America, as a teenager, Mike became the protector and head of the family, working to support his mother and five siblings. He worked salvaging sunken ships among many other jobs.
In 1951, Mike immigrated to the United States with his family. They settled in Seattle and took an active part in the Greek community, attending St. Demetrious Greek Orthodox Church. There he eventually met and married Vasiliki Anasis, June 18th, 1961 and lived in the North Seattle area to the present. In 1968 they had their first of three children.
Mike worked at Bethlehem Steel, Western Steel Foundry and Coolidge Propeller Company doing heavy and laborious work for several decades making ship propellers. In January, 1988, Coolidge Propeller Company closed shop. He was then hired on at Northwest Hospital until his retirement in 1998.
Mike loved and was devoted to his family and church. He had a sweet, kind nature and a quiet strength that was admired by all who knew him. He possessed a very strong work ethic, working wherever and whenever he could.
During retirement, Mike and his wife devoted themselves to rearing their grandson.
Trisagion service will be held Friday, November 15th at Saint Nectarios Orthodox Cathedral at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 16th at Saint Nectarios Orthodox Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery, Monday, November 18th at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Michael’s memory to the Saint Nectarios Cathedral Benevolent Fund.
