Nancy Jo Klein passed away unexpectedly at her apartment in Seattle on May 16, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on September 20, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, to Joanne and Richard Klein, Nancy had a lively and cherished childhood as one of eight siblings. She often fondly spoke of her upbringing and her proud Scandinavian roots.
Nancy’s early years were spent in Lakewood, Washington, where she attended Idelwild Elementary, Mann Junior High, and Clover Park High School. Her love for summers on Hood Canal with family and friends was a highlight of her youth. She carried this deep appreciation for people and connections throughout her life.
A gifted pianist, Nancy was known for sharing her musical talents at home, where a piano or keyboard was always present. Her admiration for the legendary Willie Nelson was evident—she even named her cat, Willow, after him. Cooking and baking were also central to Nancy's life, and she pursued her passion for the culinary arts by earning a culinary degree in 1993. After working as a baker, she found a fulfilling career as a medical assistant in retirement homes, where she found great joy in caring for patients. Her final nursing assignment was the one she cherished most, taking care of Mr. Pratt at his home overlooking Shilshole Marina.
In retirement, Nancy found a new sense of belonging at Schwabacher House in Ballard. She embraced communal apartment living with open arms, advocating for other residents, sharing her love for gardening, staying curious with new technologies, and capturing beautiful photos of flowers on her daily walks. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, Harper and Brighton, through video chats, and her pride in them was immeasurable.
Nancy is preceded in death by her long-time partner, Gordan, and her brother, Stephen. She is survived by her son, Christopher (Whitney), siblings Robert (Cindy), James (Charmaine), Peter (Sheila), Jennifer (Brent), Lisa (Rick), and Andrea (Ben), her beloved grandchildren, Harper and Brighton and ten nieces and nephews.
Nancy’s legacy of love, generosity, and passion for life will live on through her family and all who were touched by her kindness.
A private family memorial was held for Nancy on September 5, 2025.
