

Nobi Yutani passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022, at the age of 90 years old in Seattle, Washington.
Nobi was born on February 27, 1931, to Nobuichi and Kazue Yutani. He was the fourth of five children. He had two older brothers, Hiroshi (deceased) and Eiji (Kahori), an older sister, Massie (Mas deceased), and a younger brother, Kaz (Joanne).
After being interned at Minidoka during WWII, he attended Garfield High School in Seattle, Washington and continued his education at the University of Washington where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and graduated with honors. Upon completing college, he took a job with General Electric at the Hanford Plant and relocated to Richland, Washington. However, soon after Nobi was drafted into the Army after a college deferment and was assigned to Dugway, Utah.
Nobi worked at The Boeing Company for 36+ years and retired in 1993. During his career as a skilled, dedicated, tactical, respected engineer and manager at Boeing, he led a team of engineers and technicians, and proudly represented Boeing on business trips across the United States and overseas to Asia and Europe. While at the UW, Nobi met and married his wife, Alice Kimiye Fukeda and were together for over 35+ years. Together, Nobi and Alice had five children: Linda, Cindy, Teresa, Pam and Wayne.
Nobi will be remembered as a thoughtful and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as a loyal and generous friend to many. He shared the importance of studying and working hard but also how to enjoy things in life. He demonstrated to those around him a love of food, drink, cars, playing poker and an appreciation for travel and art.
Nobi was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1990 and his companion Grace Boyd in 2017. Nobi is survived by Linda Carrig, Mike Sera (Mika Kawakami), Scott and Emi Sera, Darcy Carrig (Denita Kitts), Devin Carrig; Cindy Yutani (James Siler); Teresa Mori (Paul), Paula, Tricia; Pam Sasaki (Steve), Alec, Alicia, Stefanie; Wayne Yutani (Tammy Ross), Ross, Austin, Keshia, Lucy Trevino as well as Toshi Fukeda and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Nobi was loved and will be greatly missed. We are so thankful to have had so many years with his love and support. The family wants to express our gratitude and thank all who have expressed their sympathy, kind works and generosity.
A memorial service was held on February 27th, 2022, the day of Nobi’s birthday. The family requests that, in lieu of cards or flowers, please consider a donation to the Densho, Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Temple or the American Cancer Society in Nobi's name.
