union of Willie and Margaret Kelly on October 15, 1924, in Tignall,
Georgia. Oralee accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at
Pole Branch Baptist Church in Tignall. As a young girl, Oralee went to
live in Atlanta to help care for her father's sister, Ruth. She cared for
her Aunt Ruth until graduating from Booker T. Washington High
School in Atlanta.
In the 1940's, Oralee moved to Seattle, Washington, joining her
older sister, Belle, at the Boeing Company, where they were known
as the iconic "Rosie the Riveter." She worked at Boeing and various
other jobs until she found the job of her dreams at the University of
Washington Hospital as a trained hydro-therapist in the physical
therapy department until she retired to care full-time for her
youngest daughter.
It was important that Oralee keep God a constant present in her life.
After moving to Seattle, she became an active and devoted member
of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, and later, Mount Zion
Baptist Church.
Oralee was a very creative woman. She loved to cook, sew, and
garden. Her specialties were cakes and pies. She also baked the best
biscuits ever...just ask Mike!
Oralee was called home on Thursday, October 11, 2012. Preceding
her in her homegoing were her parents, Willie and Margaret, her
husband, Ernest, her daughter, Cecilia "Sacy," and brothers, Henry
"Bud" and Johnie "Papa."
She leaves to mourn her children, Thomas, Webb, Joan (Jeffrey), and
Gregory, all of Seattle; her sisters, Belle, Mary, Wyneal, all of Seattle,
and Evelyn (Ray) of Kansas; her brothers, Lenon of Seattle and Norris
(Barbara) of California; ten grandchildren, eleven greatgrandchildren
and a host of relatives and friends.
