Our father passed away peacefully November 14th in Lynnwood WA. He was born May 4th, 1929 to Maurice and Marian Douglas in Alamosa CO the eldest of two children. He was baptized at the First Methodist Church in Alamosa. The family moved to Pueblo CO in the fall of 1936. Phil graduated from Centennial High in 1947.
While in school and summers he worked at his uncle's Spring and Brake Shop.
Phil was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pueblo. He was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship and was president of the group in 1946. Phil was attending a church youth function when he met his future wife, Olga Olson. They began dating in 1945 and were engaged in the spring of 1948. On September 6, 1950, Phil and Olga were married.
Phil was studying Geology at Colorado State University located in Fort Collins CO when he learned of the outstanding Geology program at the University of Washington. In 1951 they moved to Seattle and Phil graduated in June of 1954. In August 1955 they moved from Seattle WA to Mountlake Terrace WA.
Phil and Olga began their family in October 1953 with the birth of their son Barry. Son Guy was born in June 1955 and daughter Lenea was born in June 1957.
Phil and Olga became members of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Mountlake Terrace WA. He taught Sunday School, was a member of the Choir, President of the Congregation and Treasurer.
Phil was employed by the Boeing Company from 1955 until his retirement 1991. He was a Lead Buyer/Controller in the Material Department. He also worked in the Aero Space, Commercial Airplane and Seattle Services Divisions.
In 1979 Phil's first grandchild Kristina was born. Then came Joshua in 1983 and Kathryn in 1986. Phil was now a proud "Papa" and enjoyed entertaining them when they were visiting or over for family events. Papa was a special grampa giving of his time, talents and love.
In 1982 Phil and Olga transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood WA. Phil continued to be active serving in several leadership positions.
Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2000. They also traveled taking trips to Alaska, Branson MO, Maine for fall color, Canada, Boston, Sweden and many trips back to Pueblo CO.
Phil was the primary caregiver for Olga from early 2000 until her death in June 2006.
Phil is preceded in death by his son Guy, parents Maurice and Marion and wife Olga.
Our father and "Papa" will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his sister Donna Cramb, son Barry (Margaret Cox) Douglas, daughter Lenea (David) Dyer, grandchildren Kristina Guzman, Joshua (Brianna) Gross and Kathryn (Ian) Richardson. Also, great grandchildren Elijah and Lourdes Guzman and Jaxson Gross in addition to multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
In memory of Phil a private celebration of life will be held. Donations may be made in Phil's name to Evergreen Health Hospice Center, Kirkland WA or to the charity of your choice.
