Purita was born on October 16, 1942 in Manila, Philippines to Enrique and Carmen Cabanayan, and was the oldest of three sisters. She attended the University of the East in the Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She later obtained her professional certification in education and taught social studies and history at Claro M. Recto High school in Manila for over 20 years. After immigrating to the United States in 1980, she began a career in the insurance industry with Chubb Insurance, where she worked for 16 years until she retired in 1998.
Purita lived life to the fullest and always valued family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, visiting her hometown in the Philippines as well as sewing, photography, fashion, cooking and experimenting with new recipes. Her greatest joy was helping raise her nephew Ronnie, niece Sarah, great nephew Ryland and great nieces Maliyah and Kaiya. She devoted herself to taking care of family and living a life of faith.
A compassionate, generous and loving sister, aunt and great aunt, she is survived by her younger sister - Gloria Clariza (late Luis Clariza), nephew - Ronnie Clariza (Cassandra Clariza) of Kenmore, Washington and niece – Sarah Clariza (late Ellis Largent) of San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enrique and Carmen Cabanayan, and her sister, Teresita Cabanayan.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle, Washington from 3:30 p.m. until a Rosary service that will begin at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Kirkland, Washington followed by a reception in the parish hall and burial at 2 p.m. at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in Seattle, Washington.
