He had a lust for life and adventure and commanded attention wherever he was. He loved "re-living" all of his adventures and journeys many times over. From the many stories he told he sometimes lived life "on the edge".
He was raised on a small dairy farm in Kimball WI, but was not destined to stay there after the death of his father when he was 10. He and his sister Irene were the youngest of 6 children. He joined the Air Force after High school which paved the way to Seattle, Boeing, and his love, Lila. She tolerated his "living life on the edge" with little fanfare but she could stop him cold with a stare and a raised eyebrow. Throughout the years he made sure there were always fresh flowers for her on the dining table.
He had a love of baseball and the Seattle Mariners. He never turned down a challenge whether drag racing through the streets of Seattle(younger years), navigating whitewater rapids, or going deep sea fishing for salmon and tuna. He enjoyed bowling, and often commented it was he who taught his grandson Donnie to be a championship bowler. By "wintering" in Arizona he became an avid golfer,
and for many years loved to go dancing and playing cards not to mention the ping pong table in the family room. He and Lila traveled the world often taking one of the grandchildren with them on separate trips. He made an annual visit back to Wisconsin but when asked if he would ever move back he said he " would never live east of the Mississippi again".
He was devoted to his family and kept in touch with phone calls often reminiscing about "the good old days". The phone calls could easily last an hour or more. He was bothered by his increasing physical limitations but tried not to let them slow him down too much, nor diminish his spirit! He is sadly missed.
A Memorial Service & Inurnment will be held at 1:00p.m on 3-2-2018 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St Kent, WA 98042. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
