Richard Carl Morey died in Seattle, Washington on September 29, 2010 after a battle with cancer. Richard was born on November 3, 1938 to Marian and Stanley Morey in Syracuse New York. He grew up in Owego, NY until he attended college at Syracuse University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in mathematics and captain of the tennis team. He then attended University of California at Berkeley, where he received his masters and Ph.D. in Operations Research. Also there, he met and married Marilyn Crew, with whom he had three children, Matthew, Jennifer and Kristin. They divorced in 1974 and he was remarried to Elizabeth Tessmann. Together they had two daughters, Lisa and Angie. He left the Bay Area of California and moved to Durham, NC to teach at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Following his second divorce, Richard worked and traveled all over the globe, teaching in Australia, France, and Dubai. He was a Life Master Bridge player, as well as a ranked amateur tennis player. He was passionate about music, especially old love songs from the 40's and 50's, and played the piano with marvelous style and virtuosity. A lover of life and incurable romantic, he brought joy to all he spent time with, including his children, grandchildren, and a succession of girlfriends, of whom there were too many to recall.
He is survived and will always be missed by his son, Matthew Morey, his wife, Emily, and children Thomas and Claire Morey; daughter, Jennifer Morey Caldwell, her husband, Gary, and children Jack and Sasha Caldwell; daughter Kristin Morey Rosler, her husband David, and children Zosia and Eli Rosler; daughter, Lisa Morey Schroder, her husband, Jason, and children Dillon and Zoe Schroder; and daughter Angie Snyder Morey; his brother, Stanley Morey of New York; his uncle, John Wurzburger of Florida, faithful dog, Bailey, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, bridge partners and friends
