Ron was born June 24, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, the third of five children. He spent part of his childhood in Montana, which he considered home throughout his life. He attended high school and college in California.
When Ron was a teenager, the sudden and untimely death of his younger brother David caused him to reevaluate his life and turn to Christ. He would dedicate his life to God's service from then on.
As a special education teacher in Hamilton, Montana, he was called on to observe a student with special needs at the local elementary and offer assistance. As he was very thorough in his observations, he also observed the student's teacher very closely, a certain Linda Loge. Ron and Linda were married July 18, 1970. Their son Tim was born in 1973 and their son Steven was born in 1977.
As a young man, Ron had promised God that he would follow wherever He led, even if that meant going to China. God took him up on that, sending the couple to Hong Kong as administrators of an orphanage, where they served 1973-1980. He then taught at Faith Academy in the Philippines 1980-1991, developing their Special Education program.
Following an accident that prevented their planned return to the Philippines, Ron and Linda would spend the next few years as missions consultants. After leaving that position, Ron taught at Christian schools in Lynnwood, Washington. Upon retirement, he started a private tutoring business for children with dyslexia and balance issues.
In November 2021, Ron suffered a stroke, and he passed away at Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill in Seattle precisely at midnight the morning of December 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Margaret Sauke and his brothers David and Norm. He is survived by his wife Linda and sons Tim and Steven, as well as his older sister Marilyn Keppel (Ralph) and his younger brother Erv Sauke (Rhoda), along with multiple nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Fund has been set up in Ron's name with the EFCA which will go to the Promise Home project, a home and school for children with special needs in Congo. More information on the Promise Home is available here: https://blogs.efca.org/posts/the-life-giving-promise-of-a-home. This project has been close to Ron's heart since its inception due to his life-long care for special needs children.
