Surrounded by his family, Sherman passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014.
Sherman was born in Seattle to Mae (Newcom) & Sherman L. Sloan, Sr.
He grew up on Magnolia, and graduated with Queen Anne High School's Class of 1940.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation.
His tour of duty included Iceland and the Pacific, and he had many spirited stories about Hawaii and Samoa.
After the war, he returned to Seattle, where he met the love of his life, Marian (Mitchell), and they were married December 28, 1946. He found his calling at the Kroll Map Company, where he was a loyal employee for 47 years, retiring at age 70.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marian, his two daughters and son-in-laws, and four grandchildren: Sue & Bruce Thees, Kelly & Monique of Camano Island; Molly & Brad Mendenhall, Charlie & Sydney of Snohomish; and his sister Laura Garrison and her family.
He was an avid tennis player and salmon fisherman. He was active in the American Legion Post #123. Sherman was the most kind, friendly and loyal person, and made many friends wherever he went.
He exemplified the U.S. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis.
