Ted, given the name Tefkros Agrios, was born in Morphou, Cyprus. At just 17 years old he decided to move to America; he hopped on a ship alone, went through Alexandria, Egypt and the Azores before arriving at Ellis Island. His cousins were waiting for him in New York, and Ted worked with them in their bicycle shop for a short period of time before joining the United States Army.
Ted was stationed in Seattle, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Lou Brannon, at the Fort Lawton Officers Club. Shortly after meeting, Ted was shipped out to Germany but told Barbara he would be back for her and they would soon marry. After the wedding, they returned to New York, where he worked at the bicycle shop again. But after one year in New York, they realized Seattle was calling them back home. They purchased their one and only home in Magnolia, where they raised their three children. Ted and Barbara were married for 67 wonderful years before her passing in September of 2020.
Ted worked a few jobs before he and Barbara opened their own business in downtown Seattle, the Norton Building Garage. He was one of the hardest-working men in town. They owned the business for 42 years before retiring in January 2011. He finally settled into retirement, and learned to enjoy hardback books, coffee with friends, and spending more time with family.
Ted had many hobbies including collecting wines, Armagnac/Cognac, and working outside in his beautiful yard. He spent hours shaping and grooming his yard to perfection. Ted was also an avid wrestling and hockey fan, with season tickets to the Seattle Totems. Ted enjoyed traveling the world with his family, he especially loved visiting family and friends back in Cyprus. Ted was strong in his faith, attending church with his family at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption every Sunday.
Ted was loving, kind, compassionate, witty, stubborn, selfless, generous, and very polite. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents Maritsa and Cristos Agrios, and sister Panayiota Lipsou. He is survived by his children, Marianne Allen (Skip), Christopher Christou (Linda), and Tina Marie Christou. Grandchildren, Nicholas, Kristina and Matthew. Great-grandsons, Greyson, Miles, Grant and Brooks, who all knew him as their Pappou (grandfather in Greek). Plus many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
The Trisagion (prayer) Service is on Tuesday, July 11th at 7:00pm at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home and Cemetery in the Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12th at 10:30am at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption. A burial service will be held shortly after at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery.
In remembrance of Ted's life, the family asks that any donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption Beautification and Building Fund.
