My father, Ron Stranack, was a regular customer of Mr. Tsubota.  Ron was a builder and I often went with my father to purchase materials from Mr. Tsubota at Tsubota Steel and Pipe!  I still remember the delicious fruit cake in tins that he sent to us every Christmas!  

I just want to share this photo of a gift that I found with my grandfather's things. He worked at Foss for years and must have received this sometime from the steel co.

Mrs. Tsubota:  You and I never had occasion to meet, but I wish to express my condolences and to say to you that Tom was always a polite man to deal with -- a "class act", and he will be missed by many who knew him, even in a business environment.  

I have been associated with Tom Tsubota for well over 30 years as both a customer and employer. 

One of my fondest memories was when he and his wife took me into their home, during a winter storm, preventing me from getting home. This kindness exemplifies the Tsubota family.

To the remaining Tsubota family, I will always speak of you with appreciation and respect. I value my memories of you all and of Tom.

In my 30 years with Foss Maritime Company Tom and Ches were more than suppliers to Foss Co. but part of the extended Foss Family. Craig and Liane were not even teenagers when I first met Tom and Ches. My mentor at Foss Co., John Garret, said , "whenever you need steel or pipe call Tsubota. If they don't have it they will get it and you won't have to worry about anything"
In the hundreds if not thousands of times I called over the next 27 years it was always true. I have always thought so highly of the Tsubota Family as a whole and individually. I was sorry to see Tsubota Steel close and I am sadded to hear of Tom's passing. Whenever I heard of someone speak of Tom it was with the greatest respect for his integrity. He will be missed and always remembered.
