It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Vasili John Varlamos, husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Greek community. Born in the village of Vitalo on the island of Evia, Greece, he immigrated to the United States at the tender age of ten and was raised by his aunt and uncle.
A patriot at heart, he honorably served in the US Army before dedicating over 39 years to the Burlington Northern Railroad, from which he retired at the age of 65. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family, particularly his loving wife Nina of 56 years, who was the cornerstone of his life along with his two children Olga (& Pete) and Kosta (& Judy).
His love knew no bounds – a love that was evident in the way he danced through life, always with a smile that could light up the darkest of rooms. He found immense joy in helping others, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was in his happy place working side by side with his son Kosta in the family restaurant, Varlamos Pizzeria, where he beamed with immense pride in the legacy being built. His eyes would sparkle when speaking of his daughter’s achievements. His son-in-law and daughter-in-law were dear to him, and his grandchildren George, Vasili, Katie, Hugo, and Dino were the center of his universe – each moment with them was cherished and celebrated.
As a pillar of the Greek community, his impact was immeasurable, touching the lives of many with his kindness and generosity. He held his wife in the highest regard, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
A fighter to the very end, he bravely battled cancer for 30 years, defying the odds with his unwavering will to live. His spirit, a beacon of hope and strength, will continue to inspire us all.
We bid farewell to a man who was not only the heart of his family but also a positive force of the community. His legacy of love, resilience, and the joy he brought to others will forever be etched in our hearts. May his loving memory be eternal.
