Condolences from an old friend and piano player! Many fond memories playing at the old Riggs Hall on Phinney Ave. I'm now 73 years young, and still performing on the piano! My best to you all.

Verla was my tap and ballet teacher as well as a neighborI lived on NW 56th from 1936 to 1960I have wonderful pictures of her classes-and the wonderful costumes we had. I was not very talented but I had fun. Wendy- I think my sister,Carole who lives in our parents house on NW 56th, has some pictures of you also.
Your mother,Wendy, and wife,Ted, was a wonderful teacher. Dancing was fun with her instruction.
I loved the little productions we did in the neighborhood sitting on ladders shining flashlights on the performers as stage lights.
My sympathy to all the family.

Wendy, our condolences and sympathies are sent to you.  We and our daughter Susie remember what a very nice lady your Mother was.  Susie always will remember how your Mom always wanted the boys and girls in her classes to be the best ladies & gentleman.  You and your Mother are and will be thought of as very nice and loving people. Our best to you and yours.

I don't often see obituary notices, but for some reason I read the paper my husband brought home this week, I noticed the obituary of my first dance teacher Verla Flowers.  I took from her when I was about four years old, in Kirkland Washington.  But years later , at age 15 and through high school, I played the piano for her dance studio, which in Kirkland at that time was managed by Janice Peterson.  What I remember about those early years, and believe me at age 55, that was a long time ago, was how pretty my dance teacher was.  Also, she was such a good dancer.  Another interesting fact about Verla is that she and my dad, Gene Koll were classmates.  My dad was a wonderful tenor soloist and he and she were in musical productions at Ballard High School together.  He sang and she danced.  So, it was quite a thrill to know that my first dance teacher knew my father.  I look back on those years with a smile.  My dance career was short-lived.  But I grew up to become an elementary music teacher, and dance became, and still is a very important part of my teaching.  I still teach, and plan to continue my love of teaching and enjoying the arts.  I thank Verla or Miss Flowers for my early start in the arts.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, her family.  It's amazing how many lives her talents touched.  I hope to attend her celebration day on April 7.
