February 26, 1925 ~ March 23, 2018
Wayne was born February 26, 1925, in Mullen, NE to Lennie Mack (Mac) Osborne and Gussie Oveta Boyer Osborne. He grew up in Mullen, surrounded by family and friends. He graduated from Mullen High School in 1942 and started college at Nebraska Wesleyan University at the age of 17. At a college picnic one of his friends was accompanied by 2 girls. Wayne jokingly said that he should give him one of them. Little did he know that Martha "Scotty" Scott would one day become his bride and they would live to celebrate 72 years of marriage. His college studies were interrupted by WWII and he joined the US Navy in 1943. Home on leave, Wayne and Martha were married in Hay Springs, NE, on September 30, 1945, a day after Martha's 21st birthday. (Wayne was only 20 so he had to get his parents' permission.) After the wedding, Wayne was stationed in Seattle, WA. Martha joined him by the end of the year, and they lived in Seattle until his discharge in March 1946. Returning to Lincoln, NE, he earned a BA degree in Business Administration from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1948.
Wayne and Martha had three daughters, and settled in Cozad, NE. Wayne used his Navy experience as a First Class Mailman to launch a career with the US Postal Service. After working as a postal clerk in Cozad for 10 years he was hired for the Post Office Internal Auditing division in Wichita, KS. When those offices were closed, he was offered a position of Postal Inspector and moved to Seattle, WA in 1971. He completed years of service and took early retirement in 1981. He enjoyed his years with the Post Office and became an active member of NARPI, the National Association of Retired Postal Inspectors. Wayne and Martha enjoyed their retirement, taking their travel trailer around the United States, doing genealogy research, and visiting family and friends. Being an accountant, Wayne kept busy after retirement serving as treasurer for Bitter Lake Condominiums and Haller Lake United Methodist Church. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and seldom missed a Sunday service or a Thursday morning men's group that he named, "After 8 to 5".
Martha, his wife of 72 years, passed away December 9, 2017. Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents and grandson Brent Masters. He is survived by daughters: Rev. Carolyn (Ken) Peacock of London, OH; Maxine (Bruce) Masters of Tulsa, OK; Barbara Osborne of Mill Creek, WA, sister-in-law Nina (Ken) Clark of Mullen, NE, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 4 nephews and 1 niece.
Wayne will be buried next to Martha in the Abbey View Cemetery in Brier, WA.
