Born Nov. 3, 1937, in Hoiping, China, Ying moved to Seattle in 1959. She graduated from then Edison High School in 1961 with a diploma and typing certificate. She married Mon Jam Woo in 1968, and together they raised their family on Beacon Hill.
Ying greeted and served customers for more than 20 years at Chung Mee Café in Wallingford, a family owned and operated restaurant.
She is survived by her husband Mon Jam “James” Woo, daughter Linda Woo (Annop Chaipatanapong), son Herman Woo (Lisa), brother Wing Tong (Diana), sister Midge Tong, sister-in-law Big Yin Woo (Ka Chick So, deceased), and brother-in-law Man Bor “Robert” Woo (Chui Lan Lui “Mona”). She also leaves behind five grandchildren, 16 nephews and nieces, and numerous loving relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Tai You Tong, and sister, Kwei Yuet Kwan (Kam Chau Ho, deceased).
Memorial service will be held Feb. 25 at Butterworth Funeral Home-Arthur A. Wright Chapel, 520 W. Raye St., in Seattle, at 11 a.m. Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Procession to Lake View Cemetery and reception follows.
