Born in Minneapolis, MN in 1923. Died in Tacoma, WA, September 28, 2010. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, John, of Willow Gardens in Puyallup, daughter Alison Wheelock of Buckley, son Frederick and Velma of Milton, a loving multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a remarkable, broad array of friends, all of whom were welcome guests in her kitchen at the ranch.
Though a skillful nurse, an accomplished artist, and a city girl at heart, she was instrumental in moving her young family from Edmonds, WA to the pristine upper reaches of the Carbon River valley, onto the skirts of Mt. Rainier. Living so close to nature for 55 years, beginning early on with a cougar's scream just beyond the yard, her interest in environmental conservation evolved from initial terror and culminated in being sure her beautiful, beloved, mountain home became part of Mt. Rainier National Park--a legacy for future generations.
We love her and miss her greatly.
