

Master Gunnery Sergeant Delroy H. Bittner, USMC (Ret'd) passed away on February 27th, 2012 in Seguin, Texas at the age of 80 years. Delroy was born on August 13, 1931 in Guadalupe County, Texas to Carl August Bittner and Lillie Harborth Bittner. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Lohse; and sisters Viola England, Lillian Bittner, and Elvera Hooten. Delroy is survived by his daughters Kathy Gannaway (Rick) and Lena Rose Bittner; sons Carl Bittner (Chavela) and Cesareo Guadarrama III (Mary Ann); brother-in-law Marvin England; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He will be missed by many loving nieces, nephews and numerous other family members and friends.
Delroy proudly served 31 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam, serving as an Infantry Unit Leader. During his military service he received numerous honors including the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, U.S. Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 29th at Goetz Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 1st at 11 am at Eden Cemetery, Seguin, Texas. (From Seguin at Court Street and Hwy 123 take 90A east for 4.3 miles. Turn right on Eden Road, cemetery is 0.4 miles on the left.)
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be given to the Geronimo VFW Post 8456, 6808 N. Hwy 123, Geronimo, TX 78155; Alzheimer's Association, 7400 Louis Pasteur Dr., #200, San Antonio, TX 78229; or Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services, 1215 E. Court St., Seguin, TX 78155.
