

James Anton Kappelmann, age 55, was taken home on Sunday, August 2, 2015. He was born on March 5, 1960 in San Antonio, Texas.
James or “Anton,” as he was known by many was a lifelong resident of Marion. James was a carpenter by trade working for Busy Bee Building and Remodeling for many years and then started his own business, Country and Town Handyman. He loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed cooking and barbecuing and was often a cook off winner. He loved to dance, participated in parades and antique tractor pulls. He helped raise and show pigs with all four daughters through 4-H. Additional hobbies included fishing and watching old western movies and shows. He will most be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed one.
He is preceded in death by his father, Anton Alfonse Kappelmann of Marion; uncle, Lionel Kappelmann of McQueeney, grandparents Anton Herman Kappelmann and wife Helena Schwab Kappelmann of San Antonio and George F. and Marguerite Guessler Wittkop of San Antonio. He is survived by his daughters, Kayla Kappelmann, Kori Kappelmann (William Meyer), Kaitlyn Kappelmann (Aaron Cheatham), Kendra Kappelmann, grandson, Preston Cheatham and ex-wife, Melanie Kappelmann of Marion; mother, Georgianna Kappelmann–Messick and husband Ray of Marion; sisters, Darlene Bischoff and husband Ralph of Seguin, Janet Hild and husband Glenn of Marion and Carol Riddle and husband Donald of Marion. Aunt, Barbara Kappelmann of McQueeney, Aunt, Eleanor Settle and husband James of San Antonio and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Goetz Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00 for a time of visitation. Anton’s funeral service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 606 South Center Street in Marion, Texas on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 9:00 am with interment immediately following at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 Hwy 46 S. New Braunfels, Texas.
