

At the young age of 92, Col. Robert D. Williams, USAF (Ret.) decided to go to his resting place on the 1st of January, 2012. A devoted father, husband and service man, Bob was admired by everyone who knew him. He was born in Lexington, MA on Sept. 22, 1919, and moved to Beaumont, TX in 1925-1934. Bob attended the Univ. of North Carolina before entering the Army Air Corps in 1943. He piloted a B-17 in WWII, an F-80 FTR in Korea, and an A-36 FTR Bomber in Vietnam. During his military service, Col. Williams received 25 total U.S Military Awards, including: Two Legions of Merit, DFC with Cluster, Air Medal with 8 Clusters, Bronze Star, and Vietnamese Gallantry Award. Having lived all over the world, Col. Williams retired from the USAF at Hickam AFB, in Honolulu, HI. After 20 yrs. in Hawaii, he moved his family back to Texas and has since resided in Lake McQueeney.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Paul and Hannah Hawkes Williams, and wife Gloria Shiner Williams. He is survived by daughter Diane Williams Gould, son in law David Gould, son Scott Williams, son David Williams and daughter- in- law, Laurel Williams, and niece Toni Jordan, nephews Ned and David New, and grandson Drew Johnston.
Visitation will be held in the chapel of Goetz Funeral Home from 5-9 pm on Tuesday, January 10th. Funeral services will commence at noon on Wednesday, January 11th in the chapel of Goetz Funeral Home, with interment following at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
