9/29/24-10/20/23
Edythe was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and grew up nearby in Viola. After attending high school in Cedar Rapids, she worked for Collins Radio. On July 4, 1943, she married Robert Bartlett, who joined the Navy and was shipped out into the Pacific during WWII. After Robert returned, they resided in Monticello, IA. Edye began her career in Nursing. They had 2 daughters, Connie & Sue. In 1961, the family relocated to Downers Grove, IL where Edye continued advancing her career. Robert worked for US Gypsum Corporation. Bob and Edye cherished family and friends immensely. They hosted parties frequently and went on many fantastic vacations all over the world. They often visited Hawaii and Guam to spend time with their youngest daughter, Sue and her family. In 2008, Bob passed away after a long battle with cancer. In 2009, their daughter, Sue, also passed away from cancer. Edye made the difficult decision to retire from Nursing after 50 years and join her family living in Florida in 2011. She enjoyed the weather and Florida life while still volunteering at a local hospital. She was still hosting weekly family dinners at her house well in her 90's and attendance was mandatory! She loved spending time with her Daughter and Son-in-law as well as her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She was excited to be addressed as Gigi by everyone whether she had known them or had just met them. She moved into Assisted Living at the Barrington and continued her independence by caring for her adored car, B.B., as well as making sure she was present for Happy Hour on Fridays. Family continued to be incredibly involved and important to her. After a stroke, she moved to Sabal Palms in Largo with her family still by her side. On October 20, 2023, Edye passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at Suncoast Hospice in Pinellas Park. She was a feisty and fierce woman and if you knew her, you loved her. You never knew what she was going to say but that was the fun part! She did not just live, she LIVED every day to the fullest.
Edye is survived by her daughter, Connie, and her Son-in-law, Bob Harr. She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren: Doug Harr and his wife, Kim Harr of Reddington Shores, Jennifer Harr-Murphy of Seminole, and Lauren Santos of Los Angeles. She is also survived by 3 Great Grandchildren: Madison and McKenzie Harr and Alexa Murphy.
A visitation for Edythe will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home, 7950 131 Street North, Seminole, FL 33776, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
