Lawrence (Larry) Louis Weingart, age 72, left us unexpectedly. Born on March 20, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, Larry moved to Florida in 1971, where he would build a life rich in love, family, and personal growth.
Larry was the cherished son of Louis and Josephine Weingart. He grew up in Chicago, where he attended Washburne Trade School, studying carpentry and developing skills which made him a master builder and fixer. Larry’s craftsmanship was matched by his dedication and hard work, which he exemplified during his 23-year tenure in the Florida Power Control Room Operations Center. Remarkably, he retired at the young age of 46.
Larry's life was marked by numerous personal achievements and passions. He was deeply involved in the spiritual communities of St. Petersburg, particularly at Unity Church. Larry found joy and purpose in the "A Course in Miracles", book group and cherished the friendships he made there. His interests were diverse and included music theory, math, science, space, and creating music inspired by mathematics. Additionally, Larry volunteered at First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, where he found fulfillment in serving dinner to his friends and fellow churchgoers.
Larry’s love for life was evident in the way he spent his time. He treasured taking his kids fishing, boating, and camping. His kind, loving, and cheerful nature made him a beloved father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children Todd Weingart (Serena), Beth Weingart (Toma Belichki), and Lee Weingart (Krista); his brother Joseph Weingart (Jane); his nieces and nephews Greg Weingart, Christine Ray, Sarah Weingart, and Chad Weingart. He was preceded in death by his parents, his baby brother Louis Adam Weingart, Jr., and his brother David Weingart.
Larry was a spiritual person with a firm belief in the power of the subconscious mind. He always said of raising his kids, "They teach me as much as I teach them." His positive attitude and generous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
In addition to his family and friends, Larry leaves behind a lasting legacy through his book, "Journey to the Brightside," which chronicles his profound experiences during a three-week coma and his spiritual encounter with Jesus.
A memorial service will be held on August 17th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 212 3rd St N., St. Petersburg, FL.
Larry's family is grateful for the love and support during this difficult time. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
