Though Alzheimer’s took his memory-and eventually his life-there is no forgetting the incredible man he was and the legacy he left behind.
His life began on a diary farm in Canada, where he learned the value of hard work and the importance of family. Art’s bond with his dad, mother and siblings grew-later to sustain him his entire life. All who knew Art knew that his faith in family and God were his greatest pillars.
As a young man Art met the love of his life, Dorothy. The two would build a life of 62 years together, founded on deep respect and shared values. The couple had two children-Carol and Linda_ and enjoyed a fulfilling life in California. Art earned his Master’s Degree at Dartmouth College during his business career and became a regional Vice President at Bank of America. In 1982, Art and Dorothy retired to Sunland in Sequim, where the couple could enjoy their love of golf. In addition to shooting two holes-in-one and being president of the Sunland Golf Club for a year, Art met and made many lifelong friends.
Art opened his heart to his community, helping build the Sequim Community Church. In his death, a virtuous man is rejoined with his Savior. He said “grace” at dinner with eloquence and sincerity, reminding everyone of the important things in life.
Family was so important to Art. He loved going to the “Plenert Picnics” to reminisce with his brothers and sisters and to visit with all his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Marfleet) Plenert, his daughter Carol and son-in-law Terry Roszatycki, and his daughter Linda Plenert and son-in-law Michael Anderson. He has four granddaughters: Angela, Katie, Amy and Rachel Roszatycki. Their “Papa” will be sorely missed-the girls will remember a patient, kind man with an easy laugh who let them put bows in his hair. Art’s thoughtfulness, honor and wisdom were an inspiration to his children and grandchildren.
His life was one to be celebrated. Looking through pictures we remember his smile, a gentleman to the end. Education, church, and family were of utmost importance to him. He will forever be loved.
