Lyle passed from this life peacefully into the arms of his beloved Lord and Savior on August 14, 2012 at the age of 100.
Lyle was born on May 21, 1912 to Ralph and Edith Sears Griswold in Ridgeway, Iowa.
In 1934 he married Ruth Monroe, they were later divorced.
He is survived by his devoted loving wife Bettye of 35 years; a son-in-law, Warren Goulding of Sequim; two daughters, Judy (Jack) Ahrndt and Jewel Newell of Beaverton, Oregon; numerous grand-children, great & great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a step-son, Charles Huckey of Temecula, California.
He was pre-deceased by his oldest daughter Joan Goulding 11/28/2008.
He was also pre-deceased by all his siblings; brothers, Orrie, Milton, and Robert; and sisters, Arlene, Gail and Goldie.
During World War II he served his country in the Coast Guard patrolling Beaches in Long Beach, CA. nights and weekends.
Lyle was a self-made man. He quit school in the 6th grade to help feed his family. He worked as a Tool and Die maker. After the war he went to work at a Christian Camp in Crestline, California where he stayed for 2 years doing everything from construction to fighting forest fires in the San Bernardino Mountains. He then went to school to get his Contractor’s License in California.
Lyle worked building mostly churches in Southern California until 1989. The Griswolds relocated to Sequim, WA. To build a custom home for his oldest daughter. He built several custom homes in the area as well as one for himself in Diamond point. He also built the Sequim Community Church, the Dungeness Community Church and the Baptist Church in Sequim.
Lyle retired as a General Contractor in 2007 at the age of 95.
He was a member of Sequim Bible Church and the Sequim Senior Center.
Lyle enjoyed traveling, Bible studies, classical and gospel music, good food, animals and his canine companion, Nikki; a large, black Labrador Retriever.
Lyle made 3 trips to the Holy Land and was baptized n the River Jordan on the last trip.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Aug. 25th at 2:00PM at Sequim Bible Church, 847N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, WA. Burial will be private.
