

Mrs. Varnam was born in Columbus County on March 20, 1932, daughter of the late Jesse B. Williams and Mary Mae Ray Williams. She was a devoted member of Dixon Chapel Methodist Church for many years where she served on the Ladies Club for 50 years. Mrs. Varnam was an avid gardener, seamstress, and an excellent cook. She also enjoyed writing poems. She was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harry Legwinn Varnam, a daughter, Crystal Caudill, and a son, William Varnam.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra V. Matthews, Beverly Varnam, Cheryl V. Cruz, and Mary Ellen Varnam; a brother, Robert “Bob” Williams; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, church family, and loving neighbors.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 15, 2026 at four o’clock in the afternoon at Dixon Chapel Methodist Church with Reverend J.B. Kennedy, Reverend William Negron, and Reverend Greg Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Dixon Chapel Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John David Dawson, Tony Norris, Billy Hickman, Eric Caudill, Al Nord, and Mark Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Ennis Swain, Harold Dacus, and Elliott Shaver.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
