

George was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, and was well known for his outstanding athletic ability. He was a proud graduate of West Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1973 where he excelled in Football, Baseball and Wrestling.
George built a successful career as owner of Gillespie Heating and Air. His hard work, honesty and dedication earned the respect and loyalty of both customers and friends over the years.Socially, George could easily be the life of the party. His quick wit, boisterous laugh, and larger-than-life personality would often light up the room.
George is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Gillespie; brother Ron Gillespie; daughters, Bailey Bornhauser, Brennan Gillespie, Merinda (Bob) Long, and Brittany (BJ) Shipley; his cherished grandchildren, Logan (Sam) Gillespie, Aidan Bornhauser, Haley Long, Faith (Justin) Davis, Tyler (Kalah) Long and Sidney Shipley. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Corbin Gillespie, Hutson Davis and Carter Long who brought immense joy to his later years.
George’s legacy is one of warmth and strength; a legacy that will be remembered in the stories we tell, the laughter he inspired, and the many hearts he touched.
There will be a graveside service Sunday April 13, 2025 at three o’clock in the afternoon at Chapel Hill Cemetery ,2629 Ocean Highway West, Shallotte with Reverend Ricky Danford officiating.
