Joan Julia Cassel

Joan was born February 23, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Edward Betlejewski and Julia Sienko Betlejewski. She worked as Administrative Services Manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance for many years. Later, she worked for St. Charles Borromeo Seminary as Administrative Dean of Formation. After retirement in 2008 she moved to Calabash, North Carolina to enjoy life at the beach. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and spending time with her friends. She was a very humble lady who enjoyed giving back to anyone in need.

Survivors include her children, Robert Cassel, Jr. of Calabash and Diana Marie Cassel of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania; and her "grandpup" Miss Maggie; sisters, Teresa Pinkos of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Elaine Cunningham and husband Brad of The Villages, Florida, Irene Beach and husband Joe of Helotes, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 29, 2022 at ten o'clock in the morning at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, 5101 Ocean Highway West, Shallotte, North Carolina. An additional funeral service will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at a later date followed by inurnment.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
