John Garfield Johnston

John was born July 26, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Shelba Garfield Johnston and Mary Lee Vereen Johnston. He grew up in Maryland and Virginia. In 1999, he and his late wife Tamela Johnston moved to Shallotte, North Carolina to enjoy the beach life and be closer to his parents. John was a painter by trade and an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping. His passion was watching movies, especially comedy, or action/adventure. He enjoyed them all except for horror movies. He attended Highest Praise Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2019, Tamela Johnston.

Survivors include his four children, Annette Frances Boyd of Shallotte, John Dylan Johnston of Shallotte, Tiffani Grace Johnston of Shallotte, and Jeremiah Shammah Johnston of Shallotte; one brother, Ronald Johnston of Ash; one sister, Shelie Johnston-Hrica of Maryland; one niece, Joy Johnston; and three nephews, Jacob Newlon, Kevin Newlon, and Syres Johnston.

A Memorial Service will be held at Highest Praise Church in Shallotte, NC on October 22, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
