
Kathy was born on December 28,1955, in Fayetteville, NC. Kathy was the daughter of the late Dr. Douglas Lee and Mrs. Frances Warren Lee. Growing up in Fayetteville, she attended Horace Sisk Junior High and was a member of the Class of 1974 at Terry Sanford High School, where she was well known and liked amongst all her classmates, many of whom were lifelong friends she remained connected with up until her passing. She was head cheerleader, served in class leadership roles, and was elected homecoming queen. She was a gifted student, excelling at Math and English, and shared many fond memories of her teachers who inspired her to go into a career in education. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and her Master’s degree from Campbell University.
From a young age, Kathy had a love of dance. She performed ballet throughout her youth and adolescence. After college, she taught dance and choreographed productions for the Raleigh Little Theater. Kathy was a faculty member of Campbell University’s dance department and was the chair of the dance department at State University of New York at Albany. She returned to North Carolina and taught dance, drama, and health at Daniels Middle School in Raleigh until her retirement in 2015.
Kathy loved to spend time with her friends and family. She doted on all her nieces and nephews. She loved to spend time at the beach, watch the boats on the intracoastal waterway at Sunset Harbor, and care for her cats, birds, and fish. She gardened and was an exquisite cook.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Patrick, Michael, Kelly, and Mark Lee; and her nephew, Christopher Butler. Kathy is survived by her sisters Sheila Ritchie (Jim) and Mateney Warren (Roger); her brother David Lee (Sonya); her nieces Shelley Lupo, Suzanne Baker (Craig), Rebecca Butler, Virginia Lee, Elizabeth McBride (Cory), Kathryn Holmes (Laurence), Margaret Warren, Victoria Lee, and Marie Kathleen Lee; her nephew, Mitchell Lee; her grandnieces, Gillian Lupo, Olivia Butler, and Rachel Butler; her grandnephew, Easton Lee; and several cousins. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Fayetteville on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00am. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the Mass.
