Ronald (Ron) Powell Watson, 86, of Carolina Shores, NC, formally of Maxton, NC and Prince George, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by family and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 4, 2026.
He was the son of the late Murdock L. Watson and Hazel Inez Powell Watson. Ron was also preceded in death by his brothers, Murdock Lawrence Watson, Jr. and William Haynes Watson
Ronald (Ron) grew up in Maxton, NC where he graduated from Maxton High School, He made lifelong friends in Maxton and stayed in touch with his classmates until his passing. He and his family moved to Waverly, Virginia in the early sixties and met the love of his life and wife of 62 years Holly. Ron and Holly started their life together in Waverly, VA., Eventually moving to Prince George, VA where they raised their family until retirement in 2003 when they moved to Brunswick County, NC and have resided since.
Ron was a graduate of University of Richmond and donned his spider attire whenever possible. He majored in accounting and spent his career applying his gift for business and numbers to the field of agronomics. Having grown up around farming this was a natural step for him, and he cherished his friends and work family at Plant Food Products and Alliance Agrinomics.
While in Prince George, Ron spent his free time enjoying his many hobbies including golfing, fishing, NASCAR, metal detecting, and cheering for his Spiders and Duke Basketball team. He and Holly also enjoyed their time together in their gardens, antiquing, traveling to the beach, visiting historic sites and the company of their Westies.
In retirement, Ron found himself spending countless days on the golf courses of North and South Carolina. He would play golf 3-4 days a week and played in many golf leagues around the area. Some of his greatest memories are his time chasing that white ball with the “Bogey Busters”. He also enjoyed his time as a member of the Elks Club, and he faithfully enjoyed attending Services at Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sunset Beach, NC.
As a father he taught his children to be independent, spiritual, and loyal and he showed us the value of hard work and family. He led by example and if nothing else he showed us what true love looked like. The love and commitment he showed our mother was love like no other and one for ages. We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. We find peace in our hearts knowing he is now eternally reunited with his true love Holly.
Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were our "go-to" when life got rough, you were our sanity in this crazy world, and our comfort when we needed clarity. You were always someone we could count on, and although you were a straight shooter, you always got your point across without judgement and always provided us sound advice.
He is survived by his three children, Alison W. Hanson (Freddie Gonzalez) of Prince George, VA, Noel P. Watson (Susan) of Prince George, VA and Sean P. Watson (Brandi) of Shallotte, NC; one grandchild, Marli Paige Watson, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that he loved dearly.
The family will always be grateful for the kindness and compassion Grand Strand Hospital showed and gave to Ronald in his final days. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Memorial services will be at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at White Funeral and Cremation Service Shallotte Chapel, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, North Carolina.
