Born in Pennsylvania on January 28, 1944, Sue was the beloved daughter of the late Zella (Wenta) and Russell Shenton. She spent her childhood alongside her brothers, Joseph Wwenta Shenton and Frank Russell Shenton, Jr., in South Orange-Maplewood, NJ, and later made her home in Lebanon Township, Tewksbury Township, North Branch, and Clinton, NJ before retiring to North Carolina. Susan pursued her college education in Kentucky and New Jersey and enjoyed a rich and varied career as a real estate agent for Burgdorf Realtors, LPN and medical administrator for a neurology practice, before retiring from Aventis Pharmaceuticals. A devoted and active presence in her children’s lives, Susan gave generously of her time volunteering with Hospice, leading in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and volunteering for the PTA and numerous other organizations throughout her life. Sue was a faithful member of the Fairmont Presbyterian Church and later a cherished member and deacon of the Clinton Presbyterian Church. Known lovingly as “Nana”, she poured her heart into caring for and delighting in her many grandchildren, who were, without questions, the greatest joys of her life.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Kenneth J. DeCicco; her two sons, Keith Matyas (Jen) of Surfside, SC and Jake Matyas (Lisa) of Winnetka, IL; her daughter, Beth Wolfmayer (John) of Sunset Beach, NC; two stepsons, Kenneth J. DeCicco, Jr. (Maureen) of Stuart, FL and Geoff DeCicco (Corinne) of Jersey City, NJ; her stepdaughter, Melanie Tindall (Michael) of Red Bank, NJ; as well as her 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness.
True to the generous and giving spirit she embodied throughout her life, Sue’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia – Children’s brain Tumor Network, or to a food bank in your local community.
Interment will be private. A memorial service celebrating Sue’s life will be held at a later date. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
