He was born on June 9,1953, in Belleville, Illinois to parents Susan
Serena Hoover and Lee Roy Griggs.
Terry's journey began in Belleville, but it was New England that became his true home
for over 52 years. At the age of nine, he moved to Sudbury, MA, where he spent his
formative years until he was 30. His life then took him to Hudson, New Hampshire,
where he and his beloved wife, Maria, raised their three sons. It was here that Terry's
dedication to community and family flourished.
A passionate and sociable individual, Terry was deeply involved in the Hudson
community. He dedicated a decade to coaching the Hudson Bears Pop Warner football
programs and volunteered as a coach in the town's basketball and baseball leagues.
His commitment to Scouting was unparalleled, serving over 25 years as Cubmaster of
Pack 20 and later as an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 20. His leadership
and dedication were recognized with the prestigious Wood Badge for leadership among
other awards. Through these activities, Terry not only spent valuable time with his sons
but also forged numerous lifelong friendships and made a significant impact on many
lives.
In 2006, Terry achieved a memorable milestone by coaching the Northeast Knights to
victory in the NIFL Championship alongside his son, Adam. An entrepreneur at heart,
Terry embarked on two separate business ventures two decades apart. One of Terry
and Maria’s notable ventures was "The PhishNet - Internet Cafe and Network/Computer
Sales and Services" in Pembroke, ME, which he and Maria operated for nearly ten years
before returning to Nashua, NH, and later, Chelsea, MA to embark on his favorite
venture title, “Papa,” as he was fondly called by his grandchildren.
Terry and Maria eventually retired to the warmer climates of Carolina Shores, NC, in
December 2019. In retirement, Terry found joy in tending to his yard, learning to play
golf, and cheering on his beloved Patriots, often seen yelling at the TV with Maria by his
side.
Terry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Maria; his three sons: Adam of Kingston, RI,
Brandon of Carolina Shores, NC, and Michael and his wife, Lucia, of Somerville, MA; and
two precious grandchildren, Kaia and Kellan. He also leaves behind his two sisters,
Carolynn and Melinda; three nieces, two nephews; three grand-nieces and four grandnephews; two aunts, two uncles, and numerous cousins. Being part of such a large
family, on both sides, always made for fun reunions!
