William Darwin McCroskey

William Darwin McCroskey, 87, of Carolina Shores, NC died Monday, September 28, 2015, at his home attended by his wife of 61 years Carolyn and his second son Jeff. Bill was born in Bristol TN, on June 8, 1928 son of John and Hattie McCroskey. He spent his years in Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio and finally North Carolina.

He graduated from Logan H.S. in Logan West Virginia. After graduating from high school Bill served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, but spent his time in Verdun, France in the Army Signal Corps. He remained close to the tight knit group of the Verdun Signal Corps until he died. Upon returning, he married Carolyn in 1954 and attended the University of Dayton on the G.I. Bill. He graduated in 1958 soon after the birth of his first son with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The most significant portion of Bill’s professional career was spent dedicated to General Electric’s Jet Engine group in Evendale, OH where he worked as the Manager of Test Facilities.

He retired from G.E. in 1989 and moved to Carolina Shores, NC. He and Carolyn played many rounds of golf, traveling far and wide to play, participated in many Bridge Clubs where Bill was an excellent player. Bill and Carolyn set foot on every continent of the world together ending with a trip to Antarctica.

Bill attended Little River United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, mechanic, tinkerer and a devoted husband and father. In his younger years he spent time with his children in Indian Guides, Dayton Amateur Hockey Association, swimming and anything else that they decided to endeavor.

Surviving are his wife Carolyn, their 4 children, son Bill of Apex, NC and his wife Lori, son Jeff of Cincinnati, OH and his wife Maureen, daughter Jana of Centerville, OH and his youngest son Todd of Raleigh, NC; grandson Blake, granddaughter Colleen, grandson Matthew, grandson Sean, and his granddaughter Sarah. And a host of nephews and nieces.
