Lee was one of my dearest friends and neighbors.  We lived right next door for many years and raised our children together. Many evenings were spent on the patio with a pot of coffee and the clinking of horseshoes.  Those are some very fond memories for me and my kids.

I was shocked to find out via a beautiful letter from Lee's son Ken just yesterday, that Brookwood Retirement Community and the world lost one of its shining stars on Sept 13th ! 
My heart aches that I was not there to say goodbye nor to visit her after her fall in July, which I also was unaware of....this is partly my own fault, as a very busy summer travelling to see grandbabies (including a new one in CA july 30th) kept me from keeping better in touch with Lee ! 
        I am sending out huge hugs to Ken and his  wife and all of Lee's nieces , and their children, whom she loved with all of her heart and spoke to me about all the time. After both of my parents (Gloria and George Griffiths) passed away at Brookwood (Mom in 05 and Dad in 09) ...I continued my loving relationship with Ms. Lee ! She was with my mother in her rehab room when her vitals dropped so low, that they took her back to Jewish Hosp , where she later died early the next morning...Lee was holding my mother's hand....and was the one that alerted the nurses, because my Mother could not.....if she had not been there for her? same result, but in such a terrible way.....
   I am so , so sad this morning ! 
   Lee was such a people person and good friend....and had impecable taste...My dad really respected her and thought she was a "sharp dresser " !!! ha ha....and she was ! She would show me many, many photo albums and framed photos of her family in her apartment and we would have lunch in the dining room together...occasionally, we would go round and visit Crystal, Mae, Debbie, Robin, Alice, Charlene,(resident)  Helen , Carmen,  and some of the other staff who were still there from my parent's days....I am going to miss her so very much....
 I was in CA the night she died, but flew home on the 14th and could have attended the service on the 18th if I had known.....very disappointed that I did not get a call from Brookwood, but so grateful that Ken took the time to notify me.   THANK YOU KEN ! and God bless you as you mourn the loss of your dear, sweet Mother !   on my second to last visit with her....she even had me play Chair Volleyball with her ! ha ha....that was a scream....She was truly a gem to know and to love.....I am so very sorry for your great loss ! 
I loved seeing the photo of your Dad in his military uniform hanging outside of her apartment for many years !!! All 5 of my siblings send their condolences also ! Sincerely and with Empathy, Gail Griffiths Murray

Our family will remember Lee for the many ways in which she reached out to  welcome and include our mom, Anita, when she moved to the Brookwood Retirement Community.
