

John was born in Sheboygan, July 30, 1931 to A. Matt and Dorothy (Bowler) Werner. Following graduation from Georgetown Prep in Rockville, Maryland, he furthered his education at Regis College in Denver, Colorado.
On January 11, 1958, John and Helen Leibham were united in marriage at St. Dominic Catholic Church.
John joined the family business, The Sheboygan Press, where he was Editor for over 30 years until his retirement in 1988.
John was well known in the Sheboygan area and was very active in community events throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, Helen, survivors include, three sons, Michael Werner (special friend, Peggy) of Sheboygan, John (Jodi) Werner Jr. of Sheboygan, Tom (Debbie) Werner of Plymouth; five grandchildren, McKenna, Andrea, Madeline, John III, and Gregory; a brother, Dr. David (Joanne) Werner; a sister, Sr. Mary Ellen Werner; two sisters-in-law, Mary Belle and Letty Werner all of Sheboygan; two brothers-in-law, John (Honey) Leibham of New Holstein, Bill (Mary Lu) Leibham of Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was preceded in death by a son, Mark, two brothers, Pat and Tim; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Charles Slamar.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 12:00 noon at St. Dominic Catholic Church by Rev. Michael Dineen. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Tuesday, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated for the memorial funds established in John’s name for the Sheboygan YMCA and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
